“Life is constantly changing, and the best design will evolve and grow with my clients.”
Carlos views the design of a luxuriously comfortable home as a creative, collaborative, and multifaceted journey. True to form, he has curated distinctive residential environments for an array of private and commercial clients for 15 years. Based in New York City, he has worked with designers like Neal Beckstedt and Rodney Lawrence, architecture and design firm Workshop/APD, and developers The Related Companies.
“Since every project is unique, each requires a specialized approach.”
For Carlos, every project has a singular vision. To achieve it takes dedication—whether to the tastes of a private client or the needs of a development team—and, of course, a devotion to design.
Like every artist, he seeks a muse, the spark of inspiration that will set each project in motion. A client’s treasured photograph or favorite color scheme, the centerpiece of an art collection, or even a tiny detail like the impeccable stitching of a couture coat.
Born and raised in Brazil, Carlos moved to the U.S. to study photography, only to love styling the looks in front of a camera’s lens so much that he took up interior design at FIT. Yet as steeped as his background is in art, fashion, and the worlds of interior, graphic, and industrial design, his primary influence stems from his mother’s joy in arranging his childhood home to nurture their family’s well-being.
“What better way to express elegance and character than through a visual language?”
A formal sense of composition—thanks to his photography studies—lends a rigor to Carlos’ design process. Color, texture, refined materials, modern amenities, vintage treasures, and contemporary masterworks are elements he composes into effortlessly modern interiors that energize, soothe, make connections, provide solace. Homes that are, by design, to be lived in.
